We must very briefly review the history of the relationship between “Church and State” in order to understand how the splintered, fragmented, denominational Church in America came into existence.
The underlining and highlighting are mine to draw the reader’s attention to something important, to misspelling, and etc. in other people’s writings that I quote such as George Washington’s writing “(7) A prayer for Wednesday Morning”
There are situations all through the Bible where individuals had an Unknown Divine Appointment to accomplish God’s desired ends.
(1Sam. Ch. 17) David is a perfect example. He went to take food to his brothers while they were in the Israelite army. David didn’t know he was on his way to fight a giant. Goliath challenged the Israelites. David made the decision, based upon his values, to fight Goliath and it was then he realized God had prepared him by letting him fight other, lesser battles with a lion and a bear. David fought and won. Look for Unknown Divine Appointments in the following.
The Mayflower Compact will be discussed in detail later in this commentary but first, a brief history. A British ship, the Mayflower, with 102 passengers calling themselves Pilgrims sailed from Plymouth, England on Sept. 16, 1620 to settle in the Virginia Colony. They first landed on the Cape Cod coast of America and realized they were outside the jurisdiction of the Virginia Colony.
So, they drew up a compact and 41 of the male adults signed the Mayflower Compact to set up a self-governing body for the new colony of Plymouth. The land there was unsuitable and they set sail again and landed at present day Plymouth, Mass. on Dec. 26, 1620 and made their new home there. It was the first agreement for self-government to be created and enforced in America because they lived according to its authority instead of what Great Britain dictated.
They were the first Americans to “thumb their noses” at King James and the British Parliament and took it upon themselves to create their own government with the power to enact, constitute and frame laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices that were fit and convenient for the general good of the colony.
These Americans were refused a charter BUT their Mayflower Compact remained in effect and ruled their colony until 1691 when Plymouth was annexed by the much larger and more populous Massachusetts Colony that operated under a charter (rules) by Great Britain.
Seventy one years of self-government! The fact American colonists could take the right to establish their own government must have flashed through the other colonies like an electrical flash and surely it embered there in the breasts of the colonists like a consuming fire. England’s unjust governance and abusive taxation fanned the smoldering fires of the desire for freedom.
The Age of Enlightenment actually began in 600 B C with the Greek philosophers, grew in scope and volume as the centuries passed and was given its name during 1700’s. For effect the Enlightenment was a secular revolution by pantheists (they identified their deity with nature or believed in all gods), sensualists (one who demands physical sensation), materialists, philosophers, agnostics, deists, atheists and scientists against the Church.
The Enlightenment was also known as the Age of Reason because these groups believed all answers to man’s problems could be discovered by the human intellect. Secular (non-church) Humanism had been born, had been organized and was starting to flourish. Six stars: six the Biblical number of man.
The Great Awakening countered the Age of Enlightenment (secular humanism) when religious revival swept Europe and the English Colonies in America. That Evangelical Revivalism was based on the Anabaptist belief, contrary to Calvinist doctrine, that mankind, through Adam’s fall, is born sinful BUT salvation was possible for all people through God’s free grace offered to all people because mankind possessed the free will to choose.
Calvinist theology taught that: humankind, due to Adam’s fall, is born sinful and God will save only a select few (the elect) who have been chosen before time began and everyone else will go to hell. Individual predestination? We will investigate in depth later in this commentary!
NOTE: Calvinist theology doesn’t make sense because what would be the point of even having mankind on the earth? God had what he wanted! Just keep (the elect) in heaven Jesus would not have to die and you do not need an earth, solar system, and etc.! Calvinist theology (John 12:32) “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to me.” CALLS JESUS A LIAR! Sheer stupidity!!! END OF NOTE.
In the American Colonies: In the early to the middle 1700’s the number of people who attended Church regularly was between 10-20% of the population depending on the published survey. The Presbyterians, Methodists, and the Baptists led the way in the revivals conducted by such famous preachers as Gilbert Tennent, George Whitfield and Samuel Davies. Sometimes the writings of Jonathan Edwards, such as the burning, poetic “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, were read aloud at these revival meetings. By 1760-70 40-45% of Americans claimed regular Church attendance. (Psa. 22:28) Unknown Divine Appointments to prepare them to rebel against Britain?
March 5, 1770: The Boston Massacre of American civilians by British soldiers!
AND:
Oct. 20, 1774: The First Continental Congress produced the Articles of Association that asserted colonial rights, identified British Parliament’s violation of those rights and provided a plan that would convince Britain to restore those rights; “–the present unhappy situation of our affairs is occasioned by a ruinous system of colony administration, adopted by the British ministry about the year 1763, evidently calculated for enslaving these colonies”.
The Congress agreed to meet again in May 1775 if Britain refused to address the complaints. Britain refused.
April 19, 1775: The Minute Men and British soldiers exchange gunfire at Lexington and Concord, “the shot heard ’round the world“. The Revolutionary War had started.
May 17 to July 6, 1776: The Second Continental Congress, met again in Philadelphia with Peyton Randolph as president but he was replaced by Thomas Jefferson. This Congress decided how the colonies would raise armies, direct strategy, appoint diplomats and make treaties. This Congress acted as the de facto national government of what became the United States and On July 4, 1776 these fifty six men from the thirteen colonies signed the Declaration of Independence, 14 from the New England colonies, 21 from the Middle Colonies and 21 from the Southern Colonies.
Their age ranged from Edward Rutledge at 26 years to Benjamin Franklin at 70 years with the majority in their 30s and 40s. More than half were lawyers and the others were doctors, planters, merchants and shippers. They pledged; “to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred honor.” The majority were wealthy and had much to lose if the war was lost. Contrary to popular “traditional” websites none of these men were killed by the British, 1/3 served as militia officers, 4 were taken prisoner during the war and nearly all of them lost all or part of their wealth as a result of America’s war for independence.
ALSO:
June, 1776: Fifty five delegates from 12 states drafted the *Articles of Confederation that established a Federal Government. *Rhode Island declined to send delegates.* The Articles of Confederation document was submitted to the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776 but took more than a year of debate before they were adopted on Nov. 15, 1777 and *two days later the document was submitted to the states for ratification with a request for immediate action* but it was not until Maryland’s approval on March 2, 1781 that all the states ratified the document.
The 13 articles established a “weak” central government in which nine states constituted a majority in times of disagreement. That form of government produced laws governing issues such as; states rights, individual rights, trade, value of money, waging war and etc.
War raged on, UNTIL:
Nov. 30, 1782: the British and Americans signed the preliminary Articles of Peace.
Sept 3, 1783: the United States and Britain sign the Peace Treaty of Paris.
Nov 25, 1783: the last British troops left New York City.
The Revolutionary War had lasted 7 years.
In 1787 fifty five men participated in the Constitutional Convention that produced the Constitution of the United States. George Washington presided over the convention. Only 39 of the 55 delegates signed the Constitution they produced in 1789. The 16 delegates who refused to sign the Constitution refused for various reasons such as; #1) fear of a strong federal government that would overpower states’ rights, #2) individual civil rights would diminish, #3) loyalty to the Articles of Confederation #4) lack of a Bill of Rights and #5) the fact that no Biblical or religious language was included in the 4000+ word document. NOTE: IT IS ODD THAT THE #5) IS THE BIBLICAL NUMBER OF GRACE. IS GOD SAYING SOMETHING? END OF NOTE.
The 10 articles of the Bill of Rights were added in 1791. According to VFW Magazine, Sept. 2010, twenty two of the signers of the Constitution were veterans of the Revolutionary War having served in one of and some had served in both the Continental Army and a State Militia force.
If you read the easily available internet literature about the lives and writings of these “founding fathers” of the United States of America you will see they range through the Christian spectrum of intensely religious—John Adams TO live like you want while you worship—Thomas Jefferson TO ho-hum, Christian in name only—Benjamin Franklin.
Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the “founding fathers” but did not attend the Constitutional Convention because he was serving in France as the American Minister to France. He did correspond regularly with the delegates and is considered the driving force behind the Bill of Rights.
The Christian Church affiliation of the “founding fathers” was varied such as: Episcopalian/Anglican, Presbyterian, Unitarian, Quaker, Dutch Reformed/German Reformed, Catholic, Lutheran, Congregationalist, Huguenot, Calvinist and Methodist.
George Washington, appointed a Major then promoted to Colonel and known as a hero in the French and Indian War, Major General and Commander of the Continental Armies during the Revolutionary War, the “glue” that held the Continental Army together at Valley Forge, chairman and a driving force of the 2nd Constitutional Convention, the first elected President of the United States under the new Constitution, *wrote in his prayer journal;*
NOTE: I could not highlight except for the misspelling of this great and famous man’s words so I underlined the important words in his prayer because I so greatly admire his humility which far exceeds my own humility when I pray. Benjamin Franklin signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and founded the first non-religious university in America. After 4 or 5 weeks of deliberations the Constitutional Convention, of which Franklin was a delegate, was in danger of breaking up. The deliberations had never opened with a prayer and Franklin made a motion they should bring in a clergyman to pray for their deliberations.
Franklin’s motion was voted down by these religious men! Some sources say he was from a Puritan family and others a Quaker family. He attended a Presbyterian church five Sundays in a row, became a pew holder and a contributor but ceased attending weekly services. He was also identified as an Episcopalian by the Library of Congress.
In 1780 Franklin took a common-law wife, Deborah Read, who bore him a son and daughter. Alfred Owen Aldridge described Franklin as a confirmed Deist, who, in contrast to more militant Deists like Tom Paine, did not attempt to “wither Christianity by ridicule or bludgeon it to death by argument”.
Deism is the belief, based solely on reason (secular humanism), in the existence of God as the Creator of the universe who after setting it in motion abandoned it, assumed no control over life, exerted no influence on natural phenomena and gave no supernatural revelation.
March 1, 1790 [Franklin] wrote the following letter to Ezra Styles, President of Yale, who had asked him his views on religion. “As to Jesus of Nazareth, my Opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of Morals and Religion, as he left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see; but I apprehended it has received various corrupt changes, *and I have, with most of the present Dissenters in England, some Doubts as to his divinity;”*

General Statements
John Adams considered one of the most devout founding fathers, Vice President under Washington, 2nd President, and devoted husband wrote a letter to Zabdiel Adams 21 June, 1776; “Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for Liberty, but it is religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principals upon which Freedom can securely stand.”
“The only foundation for a free Constitution is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure than they have it now, They may change their Rulers and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty. They will only exchange Tyrants and Tyrannies.”
AND:
John Adams wrote to the officers of the First Brigade of the Third Division of the Militia of Mass. “–Because we have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. –“
YET: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE:
John Adams: Defense of the Constitution of Government of the United States of America: “–It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service [writing the Constitution] had interviews with gods, or were in any degree under the influence of heaven, more than those at work upon ships or houses, or laboring in merchandise or agriculture; it will forever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses–“ Unknown Divine Appointment?
James Madison: principal author of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, 4th President, a diagnosed epileptic with chronic arthritis, devout Episcopalian, married to a widow 15 years his junior who was expelled from the Quaker Church because of their marriage, wrote;
“—Rulers who wished to subvert the public liberty, may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just Government instituted to secure & perpetuate it needs them not. Such a Government will be best supported by protecting every Citizen in the enjoyment of his Religion with the same equal hand which protects his person and his property; by neither invading the equal rights of any Sect, nor suffering any Sect to invade those of another.”
Thomas Jefferson: newly elected 3rd President, devout, married with children and also the father of a bi-racial family by his slave Sally Hemmings, as proved by DNA testing in 1998, wrote in a letter to the Baptists of Danbury, Conn.; “I contemplate with sovereign reverence that the act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state.”
Into this grand experiment of liberty the founding fathers **inserted a Supreme Court into the Judicial Branch and they feared it as bad as having a serpent guard their children.**
It started with the idea of creating the Constitution to be a “living document” that would grow and change as necessity demanded. The only way they could agree upon this concept was to establish a Supreme Court comprised of judges, who were free of political ties, to fairly investigate and decide upon the intent of the writers of the Constitution.
Thomas Jefferson wrote that he; “was not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind.” AND: “As that [the human mind] becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times.“
BUT: Thomas Jefferson also warned against treating the Constitution as “a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist, and shape into any form they please.”
THEN: After Jefferson became president he wrote: “The Constitution on which our union rests, shall be administered by me according to the safe and honest meaning contemplated by the plain understanding of the people of the United States, at the time of its adoption,”
SO: The ever changing Constitution, the basis for civil law, is actually based on America’s ever changing collective conscience. Conscience is based on values. A collective conscience is formed when a group of individual’s consciences agree to pursue a shared interest. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ THE COMMENTARY Abortion ON THIS WEBSITE especially those three women authors, among other things they did that helped develop the collective conscience of American citizens especially with the help of the Supreme Court.

Wade, legal case in which the US Supreme Court on January 22, 1973 ruled (7-2) that unduly restrictive state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional. In a majority opinion written by Justice Harry Blackmun, the Court held that a set of Texas statutes criminalizing abortion in most instances violated a constitutional right to privacy, which it found to be implicit in the liberty guarantee of the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment (“…nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law”) Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022.
The Guttmacher Institute published the following information. “The Supreme Court struck down Row v. Wade in 2022.” “There were an estimated 1,126,000 abortions in 2925 which was about the same as 2024 when there were 1,124,000 clinicians-provided abortions.”

John Jay was a member of the Continental Congress from 1774-1779, serving as its president in 1778-79. He became the United States minister to Spain in 1779. He was part of the peace treaty negotiations between America and England and at the Treaty of Paris Sept. 3, 1783 he signed the final peace treaty with England along with John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and England’s representative David Hartly, a member of British Parliament.
John Jay became the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court in 1789. On Oct. 12, 1816 John Jay said; “Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers. National prosperity can neither be obtained nor preserved without the favor of providence.”
John Adams, mentioned above, wrote in a letter to Jonathan Jackson on Oct. 2, 1780; “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”
WRITER’S NOTE: Dec. 6, 2012, The Supreme court is divided along liberal, conservative, political and moral (possibly religious) values. Both sides, Democrats and Republicans, jockey to gain the ability to appoint a Supreme Court Justice who shares their liberal, conservative, political and moral (possibly religious) values so the Supreme Court will interpret the intent of the Constitution writers “their way” and the lawmakers can then create civil laws according to their personal beliefs. Gridlock has become the political norm in the Federal Government because of TWO political parties divided from each other by liberal, conservative, political and moral (possibly religious) values. SO: The Constitution can be changed accordingly just like John Adams had warned in 1780 when he wrote; “a two party system is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution” AND 21 June 1776; “The only foundation for a free Constitution is pure Virtue.”
SUMMARY TO HERE:
Have you seen the “theme” that the Founding Fathers expected the US Government to be administered by sincere, honest, dedicated, worthy, preferably Christian people to make just, secular (denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis) decisions to govern a moral and religious people? When you stop laughing, or crying, but please no cursing just read on. (Psa. 22:28) Unknown Divine Appointments?
These sectarian (a member of a religious or political group), Christian men, most belonging to different parts of an already fragmented Protestant Church, regardless of their moral or spiritual values or their degree of obedience and closeness to God, “created” three secular political documents that “founded” America as a nation based on democratic political principals that were expressed in the Constitution which was and is the basis of America’s civil law.
Don’t forget, the eastern seaboard contained thirteen English colonies claimed by England prior to the Revolutionary War. BUT: The first self-governing body in those colonies had been consecrated to God by a covenant called the Mayflower Compact.
The Constitution and Bill of Rights were either produced by unmentioned or unrecognized Holy Spirit revelation and/or educated intellectual reasoning and they guarantee each American citizen the right/liberty to worship God exactly as they believe, OR: to not worship God at all, OR: to not believe in God, OR to make some arbitrary degree of wealth, an object, a person, or a concept into their own personal God under legal protection from threat, persecution or harm from any other person or group of persons.
NO, AMERICA WAS NOT FOUNDED ON CHRISTIAN PRINCIPALS! America was founded to protect the individual’s right to express his concept of Christian principals OR whatever religion he desires OR no religion! We are created in God’s image. God desires to be accepted and loved for who He is and what He is just like we do by a person with a free will and the freedom to choose.
BECAUSE: Use yourself for an example. A bought “I love you” is bitter ashes because the bought person loves the price you paid and not you. (Acts 20:28 & Eph. 1:14) The one fundamental benchmark of Christianity is that God had no greater price to pay than Himself through the Person of Jesus Christ. When you love the purchase price, Jesus, you also love the Giver, God Himself!
A forced “I love you” is more bitter than ashes because it would engender hatred from the forced person toward you. God respects mankind’s individual, free moral right to choose, He neither forces nor offers financial reward to obtain your love; as personified by Joshua’s statement; (Josh. 24:15) “–choose you this day who you will serve;” AND:
the spirit of choice as evidenced throughout the whole New Testament because people always had a choice as exampled by (Matt. 19:17 keyword: if, Mark 8:34 keywords: Whosoever will, Luke 9:23 keywords: If any man will AND John 6:59-66 esp. V.66 keywords: went back:) So the political, secular founding documents PROTECT God’s Biblical, sectarian method of offering salvation to mankind and the American Church became a world leader in evangelism.
SO:
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WAS FOUNDED ON THE BELIEF THAT MEN, NOT GOD, SHOULD MAKE AMERICA’S LAWS. THAT IS WHY THE PRINCIPALS (ordinances) OF THE HOLY BIBLE WERE NOT FOLLOWED WHEN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, THE CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS WERE WRITTEN.
(Rom. 10:8-13) LOOK UNTIL YOUR EYES ARE USELESS RED ORBS AND YOU WILL NOT FIND GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION IN ANY OF AMERICA’S FOUNDING DOCUMENTS. (Mark 12:30-31) Where is it written “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart – and – thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”? (John 6:44) How many of America’s documents have what Jesus said; “No man can come unto me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”?
THE FACT IS THAT LAWS AGAINST MURDER, THEFT AND ETC. WERE IN THE SPOKEN OR WRITTEN LAWS OF VARIOUS NON-BIBLE TRIBES, CLANS, SOCIETIES AND NATIONS SINCE THEY HAVE EXISTED. so: GOD’S NAME WAS GENERICALLY INVOKED A TIME OR TWO IN SOME OF AMERICA’S FOUNDING DOCUMENTS BUT THAT IS ALL!
YES, these documents were written by, more or less, Godly men but they kept their religion out of the official documents and they separated the church and the state. “Civil law” in the hands of unjust, dishonest, greedy, selfish, narrow minded men is where the seed of America’s destruction is sown! LOOK UP THE AMOUNT OF AMERICA’S NATIONAL DEBT ON THE INTERNET. AMERICA IS CURRENTLY ON THE VERGE OF NATIONAL BANKRUPTCY!

(MATT. 15:9 again) Jesus had said; “But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

(JER. 26:1-6 ESP. V.3 AGAIN) Israel had gone into sin and God gave them a judgment message; paraphrased; “Come back to obedience to my word and I will pity and console you. If you do not, I will destroy you.” God nor his word did not change! Israel came back to God that time. BUT: (2Ki. 17:14-18 esp. V.17) Israel (the northern ten tribes) was destroyed when they started burning their children as a child sacrifice to Molech. Judaea/Judah, (the southern two tribes), was destroyed by the Romans (Matt. 27:25) after they rejected Jesus as Messiah. Israel the nation came back home on May 14, 1948, but those individual rebellious Jews in the 12 tribes did not! American civil law permits Americans to burn their children as medical waste in abortion clinics! Draw your own conclusions.
Of course someone will dispute the above 5 paragraphs and bring up; “The Mayflower Compact!” OK. Copied verbatim:

Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and furtherance of the Ends aforesaid;”
“And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty fourth. Anno Domini, 1620.”
The entire Mayflower Compact was a covenant! They covenanted AMONG THEMSELVES to form a civil political body. BUT: They founded the first colony for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith and that constituted a COVENANT WITH GOD by His people! Earlier attempts at establishing a settlement in the New World had failed because of a lack of civil government. The Plymouth Colony lasted until 1691 when it was absorbed by the Massachusetts Colony.
Read some history. Every nation on Earth was “founded” by tribal people who conquered or formed alliances with their neighboring tribes then “evolved” into whatever nation they are now. EXCEPT:
In the history of the world only two nations were “founded” through a “covenant” with God.
#1 (Gen. 17:1-11 esp. V.8) Israel by God’s Old Testament covenant of circumcision, through blood-sacrifice, with Abraham to establish the nation of Israel. AND:
#2 America, by Christians, living under God’s New Testament Grace Covenant, through Jesus’ blood-sacrifice for the Church, who covenanted in the Mayflower Compact to establish the colony that would become America “for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith”.
The point I’m making is that America was spiritually (covenant) founded by Godly people to achieve religious freedom from the Anglican Church of England and to further God’s kingdom BUT they rationalized they had to have a political type of government. They did not realize democratic principles in the form of civil law would be what would destroy the Godly Nation they were attempting to establish BECAUSE: they could not envision that Christian Church influence on the population would wane due to sin by its government and citizens!
AND: They could never have imagined lukewarm Christians, non-Christians and even non-believers would one day be the majority in the “civil Body Politick“ who made the decisions which would direct America’s course of action sometime in the future! (1Sam. 8:1-7) Israel did not break covenant with God when they wanted a king so they could be like the nations around them. (#1 1Ki. 12:1-24 then 2Ki.17:14-34 the northern 10 tribes calling themselves Israel and common history: (Matt. 24:1-2) the southern 2 tribes named Judah/Judaea were destroyed by the Roman empire) Israel was destroyed because of their sins.
Just like America and the Mayflower compact: The replacement of the Mayflower Compact with the Constitution, a physical (non-covenant) document, did not break the covenant with God and the only way it could be broken was by America’s sin, just like ancient OT Israel.
In order to create the Constitution a great disagreement over slavery was set aside but addressed in a sly way. The Constitution, Sept. 17, 1787, Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph #3: “Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included in this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years” [indentured servants], “and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of other persons. The actual Enumeration shall–“
For effect this statement declared Negro slaves three fifths of a person and thus a non-person, they put off addressing the sin of slavery and it would cost America dearly in the Civil War. There were other divisive issues that revolved around slavery such as state’s rights, culture, religion, financial issues and etc.
ALSO: In the years after America won its freedom the Age of Enlightenment doctrine (secular humanism) again started coming to the forefront in American culture and resulted in declining religious convictions. It was countered by the Second Great Awakening from the 1790’s to the 1850’s spearheaded by the Congregationalists, Presbyterians, Methodists and Baptists led by dynamic preachers such as Charles Finney.
The church was spiritually awakened AND by the 1850’s 75-80% of Americans claimed regular church attendance. Was this an Unknown Divine Appointment to prepare America to cleanse itself by fighting the Civil War? How could American missionaries have successfully evangelized other races if America held Negro people in bondage?
THEN:
The slavery issue split the church; the Southern part upheld slavery because there is slavery in the Bible and the Northern part urged emancipation because #1) Jesus preached freedom and #2) slavery caused the founding documents to be based on a lie! Regardless of the above Constitutional statement, the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776, said in paragraph #3 “that all men are created equal.” The Preamble to the Constitution outlined the purpose of the Constitution and it stated; “–establish justice–secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves”.
SO a great Civil War was fought and over 600,000-800,000 soldiers were killed by all causes and uncountable resources were lost. A judgment? Read the Old Testament. The prophets would tell ancient Israel the nation not to sin, Israel would go into sin, God would send a judgment, a punishment, but, more important, it was designed to make Israel repent and return to God so He could protect them through covenant because He loved them. A lot of God obeying Israelites were killed or taken captive in these judgments just like Christians were killed in the American Civil War.
Slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment to the Bill of Rights but Negroes were not given true citizenship! It took more than 100 years of sometimes bloody, political struggle for American Negroes to escape repression and enjoy full, political, constitutionally guaranteed civil rights but societal acceptance is still an ongoing struggle. (Acts 17:27 keywords: And hath made of one blood all nations of men: blood defined: Strong’s #129: kindred) Yes, I am white but that does not matter to God, or Martin, or me.
The resurgence of the doctrines of the Age of Enlightenment (Secular Humanism) had for the second time been overcome by the evangelical Protestant revival of the Second Great Awakening that also helped, by a Civil War, to end America’s shame, disgrace, cruelty and terror as it held its own people in bondage.

After I came back home to the states, I took my 30-day leave. My orders were to report to Camp LeJeune, NC because I had about 7 months to go on my enlistment. I was assigned to the pool of Marines who provided honor guard troops to conduct military rites in funerals, in the state of North Carolina, for Marines killed in Vietnam, enlisted Sergeant in charge of my detail. I don’t know, and I never asked, why we did not wear the famous “Dress Blues” of the USMC.
SO: You know, class-A uniforms of the day, pall bearers for the closed, permanently sealed caskets, fire the 21-gun M-16 rifle salute–three shots each from seven riflemen; ***lonely, lonely taps in slow, shivering bugle notes resolutely marching their melancholy parade across silent cemeteries like cruel banshees irrevocably taking the souls of their sons from Mommies’ shattered, reluctant hearts.*** (three the Biblical number of completion)
Flag folded and flag presented to crushed, dying Mommies, broken, shrunken Daddies, shocked, unbelieving siblings and sad, worried family members. I remember the Mommies’ eyes, always the eyes, as I, straight, tough, cold-faced in my winter forest green or summer tropical worsted uniform of the day, bent over and gently placed the flag in their limp, wilting, strengthless hands. Those desperately wounded, forever changed eyes spoke to me; “That’s it? A red, white and blue rag for MY SON?” *Unspoken;* “That’s about it. It’s all I’ve got.”
Even though I didn’t know their son’s names or faces those lonely, lonely Mommies and Daddies would never know the dirty, bloody, stinking, days and nights their sons and I had shared. They would have never understood I was burying my brothers too because we had a brotherhood of rage, fear, suffering, sacrifice and ******the suffocating knowledge our own government would not let us win our war.****** The lonely, outcast feeling our countrymen, the druggies, the hippies, the draft dodgers, the liberals despised us as they screamed; “Baby killer, dope fiend, crazy!”; the thrown eggs, fruit and spit, the vulgar gestures, curses and hatred. It wasn’t racism but it was of the same thing in essence!
I guess that was our parade; “Welcome home you murderers”. The 59,267 of us, as of 2010, who were put into the cold, emotionless dirt didn’t have to suffer that final indignity; our Mommies and Daddies did suffer it though. After where I’d been, what I’d seen and what I’d done that funeral duty was a misery. Head to the whiskey store, go on home with whatever woman I was with at the time, a fifth of happy juice under my arm, a bitter toast to the dreary day, get drunk enough so my face would smile, my words would become light but my heart grew colder and colder through the unchangeable metronome of remorseless memories. Honorable discharge.
I was glad to point my compass north and head back to Lick Fork, KY. Haunted. My conscience had been programmed by the Devil, the military, society, ME; all of it. It didn’t seem like God was around very much during those years. Of course, He was but I was unaware of it. AFTERWARD
12/13/19 A few years ago, maybe 8 or 9, I ran across a copy of A Different Flag that was mixed in with some of my religious writings and, of course, I read it again and the possibility of a terrible realization dawned on me. But I must give some background first.
I was a naïve, inexperienced 18-year-old when I arrived at my permanent duty station at Camp LeJeune, NC after I graduated from Marine bootcamp and ITR, (Infantry Training Regiment) in 1962. I had no personal vehicle and my first trip home (a 30-day leave) began on a Trailways bus. At the Trailways bus station in Jacksonville NC, the town nearest to Camp LeJeune, I stopped with shock when I saw the waiting area was divided into a white section and a colored section. It was plain to see the white section was well maintained and the colored section was very poorly maintained.
Then I looked into some of the eyes of those in the colored section; some looked away and a few others stared at me; I guess my feelings showed on my face. It was an eternal moment of reality for me. I had seen the activities of racism, the KKK and etc. on TV when I was a boy but I had paid no attention, it was just pictures. I made my way to the ticket counter, bought my ticket and sat down to wait for my bus going north. “They are people just like me.” And I was ashamed of being white.
As we were boarding the bus, I stepped aside to let a ‘colored’ lady go first and I got disdainful looks from the white people in line and some strange, indefinable looks from the black people. When I got on the bus, I was white line shocked again. The black people had to stay in the back of the bus behind the white line even if all the seats were filled and some had to stand even if there were empty seats in the front of the bus on the white people side of the line!
I had not realized the Trailways Bus north to a large city where I would make my connection to another bus going on north toward Kentucky also did double duty as a local bus. Over and over again we stopped at this or that mailbox to pick up or drop off a passenger. Sometimes we would pick up negro women in a maid’s uniform standing at a driveway in front of an obviously rich family’s home with its manicured lawn. I saw, with my eyes, tired negro women get on the bus and have to stand behind the white line where all the seats were full while there were empty seats in the front! And I wondered; “How in the world can people treat other people like that?”
I questioned that and was told it was the law; “Look at the signs sonny boy.” There were negro marines in every phase of my military life and yet they and their families were treated like this!
I don’t remember exactly when but before I transferred overseas in 1963 I was on another Trailways bus and the only two other passengers seated in front of the white line, two old white men, and one made the comment; “It shore is a sight how ar boys er a fightin anna dyin while thur a fightin them communists fer ar freedom!” while negro maids and housekeepers, with their backs, legs and feet aching, stood on their tired feet on the negro side of the white line because all the seats were taken; riding home to their family. Even today, sitting here writing this, I can only shake my head at the hypocrisy of some Americans’ inhumanity to other Americans.
To make a long story short; I served two tours in Vietnam, 63-64 and 66-67. They tell me the war in Vietnam officially started in 1964 yet my records show I was paid combat pay in 1963. You have read about the funeral duty but, as I mentioned above, it wasn’t until later that I realized the Mothers were negros and that is when I questioned the winter green or tropical worsted uniform of the day which we wore with me an enlisted Sergeant E-5 in charge of the funeral for a negro Mommy’s beloved Marine son?
Was there someplace where there was a burial detail that dressed in the famous Marine Dress Blues with a white Commissioned Officer leading them that conducted funerals for white Marines? Is it possible that even one of those ‘Dress Blue’ funerals happened at the same time I, in my uniform of the day, was handing the flag that represented America, *the land of the free and the home of the brave,* to a negro Mommy who would be on the white line bus tomorrow? The thought made me sick! Sick because of the thought that my brothers and their families could be treated that horribly cruel way! It still does!
EXAMINATION OF AMERICAN SOCIETY’ WAR AGAINST THE CHURCH
(Dan. 1:3-10 keyword: eunuchs) Daniel is the example. Daniel was physically “castrated” to make him a eunuch so he couldn’t sire children with a woman of his captor’s Babylonian race and their bloodline wouldn’t be “contaminated” by his “God Person” bloodline which is a hidden prophesy about America’s civil law. (1John 1:6 through 2:2 Jesus’ blood is used to cleanse a person’s sins) SO:
God’s enemies are using civil law to “castrate” the church so Jesus’ “bloodline” will not “contaminate” their desire to please self by sinning! Israel, as a nation, finally went too far into sin, (Isa. 5:5-7) God removed His hedge of protection and God let Israel be destroyed.
At this present time, Dec. 6, 2012, the Age of Enlightenment doctrines have again been brought to the forefront of American culture led by science, philosophy, agnostics, atheists, sensualists and materialists.
Aiding this New Age (secular humanist) movement are some deluded, visible church denominations, and parts of denominations, that are scripturally bankrupt, spiritually deaf, morally corrupt, and materialistically burdened as they embrace obvious sin, disregard fundamental Biblical truths and deny the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit while they join forces with civil law in ushering in the *great falling away* that is happening and is foretold in (2Thess. 2:1-12). Will there be a Third Great Awakening? OR: (Rev. 20:1-6) Will Jesus conduct His own Third Great Awakening?
God has all power (Luke 22:31) and Satan must have God’s permission to tempt Christians BUT God uses Satan to test His Christians; please, please read (The book of Job) to understand the process God uses to use Satan to test His people. (2Thess. 2:7-11 keywords: send them strong delusion) Just like Ancient Israel God is sending America’s leadership stronger and stronger delusion and America’s proud leadership becomes more and more weak, indecisive, confused, uncommitted, divided, quarrelsome, selfish and unholy. “Separation of Church and State” according to civil law is the watchword even though it is not part of the Constitution and Bill of Rights!!
More and more American citizens are worshipping SELF, “entertain me” is the watchword, unholy pleasure is the coin of the realm, physical and emotional sensation is the altar where worship is performed and the unholy trinity is “I want, give me and I won’t! The weak, denominationally divided church is under stronger and stronger delusion and more and more congregations and denominations are permitting Biblical sin into their membership.
Why should God stay with America? America has kicked Him out of the schools, removed His commandments from the government buildings, attacked His Son’s name and despised the cross which is the symbol of Jesus’ suffering and death for our sins!
If someone treated you that way would you continue to give to them and protect them? Well? Would you? Of course not! All the above has happened and is happening in the guise of “separation of church and state” under Constitution based civil law.
The same thing that happened to Israel has started happening to America. Sure, there was always sin by some Americans. BUT: Sin has become and is becoming more and more rampant under #1) political correctness, #2) civil law and #3) a sin promoting Judiciary. AND:
That sin has the seal of approval and participation from America’s civil government leadership. God made America great by blessing it financially, inventions, industrial production, an unstoppable war machine and etc. as long as America, as a nation, held true to the covenant with God.
WW2 could not have been won without America. France, Belgium, the Netherlands and etc. were occupied, Britain was drained and alone, Russia could not have withstood the German onslaught by all of Germany’s war machine BUT a bit more than half of Germany’s war machine was defending German occupied Europe against the American led attack. Surely you can imagine what the world would have been like under NAZI domination. SO: Had America been founded by Unknown Divine Appointment?
LET US, YOU AND ME, LOOK AT THE *HISTORY* OF THE TURMOIL, WARS OVER *FAKE CHRISTANITY*, RACISM, POLITICS, WEALTH, SOCIAL STATUS, LAND OWNERSHIP, HATRED, DIVISIONS, CRUELTY, MURDERS AND *APOSTATCY IN THE CHURCHES* IN ALL OF EUROPE THAT CAUSED THE TINY MAYFLOWER SHIP AND ITS 102 PASSENGERS TO FACE THE FORBIDDING, ROARING ATLANTIC OCEAN TO ESCAPE! YOU WILL BE SHOCKED!!!
1) (Luke 24:46-51) Jesus had ascended into heaven.
2) (Acts 2:1-14) The Holy Spirit had been given to man at Pentecost (Passover).
3) (Acts 2:38-41 & 4:4) Thousands of Jews had been saved during the Pentecost “Revival”.
4) (Acts 10:1-45) Cornelius, a Roman Centurion, a Gentile (non-Jew), and his family were saved.
5) (Acts 11:1-18 esp. V.3 & 18) From then on both Jew and Gentile were saved in spite of the Jewish resistance to the Christian Movement.
6) (1John 1:1-5) In the living scriptures (Acts 8:1) we can “watch” the early church being formed and brought into existence.
7) (Acts 11:1-3) We can see the trials and troubles of the Apostles as they worked to maintain the purity of the doctrine brought by Jesus in His physical ministry and (John 14:15-26 & 2Tim. 3:16-17) in His spiritual ministry through the Holy Spirit.
8) (Acts 13:1-12, 13:42-48, 16:1; 1Cor. 1:2, 4:7; Gal. 1:2; Eph. 1:1; Phil. 1:1-2; Col. 1:1-2; 1Thess. 1:1; Titus 1:4-5 and etc.) We can watch while the Holy Spirit inspires the Bible Writers as they wrote the Holy Scriptures and burned out their (1Pet. 2:3-6 esp. V.4 keyword: precious) precious lives establishing standards, order, doctrine (teaching) and administration while they founded and organized an international Church composed of many local Churches.
9) (Acts 28:1-31 esp. V.31) We see that, with the presence of the Apostle Paul, the center of Church authority shifts from Jerusalem to Rome which was provident because, according to history (Jewish Virtual Library), Jerusalem was destroyed in 73AD, over a million Jews and Christians were killed, (Matt. 24:1-2) the temple was torn down, its stones were carried away, its ground was salted and plowed by the Roman Legions under Titus AND (Isa. 14:30-31) the Roman government removed the name Israel from all maps and replaced it with the name Palestine (Joel 3:4) just as had been prophesied.
10) Then: After the Book of Revelation from God written by John THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE FROM GOD! So: How did the “Biblical, Holy Spirit sanctioned Church” get to America? To you? To me? Is it the real Church?

The most astonishing thing found during this research was: generally:
1) When a Catholic authors a historical church document it declares the Catholic Church is the only way to obtain salvation, the Pope is God’s authority on earth and their Church never did anything wrong.
2) When a Protestant authors a historical church document it declares the Catholic Church is all wrong, the Reformation was a rebellion against the Catholic Church, the Reformation defined scripture and refined salvation down to the point their denomination was formed as the one true Church and their teaching is the only way to obtain salvation.
3) When an atheist, agnostic, Wicca (witchcraft/witch) and etc. wrote a document about the Church the Church was degraded to a bunch of gibbering trash. SO: Secular historical documentation is the only believable source of information
Scripture ended as shown above because it gives the history of the Church and Israel from the beginning of time to, through prophesy, the ending of time. Scripture, especially the N T, ***tells each person who has ever lived*** how to obtain salvation and become a Christian and how to conduct his personal life thereafter (see the: “Is God Fair” commentary if you don’t believe it). It tells how the Church is to be organized and how it is to be conducted.

(1John 4:8, 16, & 19 keywords in all God is love) Surely you do not think God, Who is Love Itself, Living Love, Perfect Love is so cruel He would let the ancient, tribal people who lived and died before Jesus was born or after He ascended into heaven or before the church came to them would just let them go on to hell without ever offering them salvation! There is nothing else required, the Holy Scriptures (Bible) are a complete, finished Book that is the revealed Word, identity and purpose of God. It all ties together with itself, there are no loose ends and nothing spiritual or doctrinal is left to chance. Man, saint or sinner, creates his own problems with the KJV Holy Bible because of pride, stubbornness, ignorance, willfulness, sarcasm, unbelief and doubt. EXCEPT: People are writing different bibles that make me want to scream. Before the European Church Age started Europe and Asia Minor (Western Asia) had been invaded and settled by barbaric tribes such as Goths, Vandals, Angles, Celts, Saxons, Franks, Huns, Slavs, Bulgars, Vikings, Normans, Visigoths and a host of lesser tribes and they brought their Pagan idol, god and goddess religions with them. Through wars, convenient marriages and strategic allegiances the stronger tribes grew stronger and accumulated more and more land and the weaker tribes were assimilated or destroyed.
That was the Pagan Empire that awaited the Church Jesus Christ had founded through the Apostles but NOT UNTIL man had mixed three main elements together to form the Roman Catholic Church that would shock the barbarians with its barbarism and put their idol worship to shame with its own brand of idolatry.
(please read: Rom. 8:8-9 first: especially V.9 keywords: Now if any man (Strong’s #1536: whoever) have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his: Oddly enough, in all the research through which God has led me, I have found the Holy Spirit mentioned only two times and a spirit mentioned one time.
#1) The Eastern part of the Catholic Church split from the western Catholic Church over the identity and origin of the Holy Spirit and they and eventually formed into the Eastern Orthodox church.
#2) In October, 1523 Ulrich Zwingli had said they would wait for the Zurich city council to decide if they could make the Anabaptist reforms. Simon Stumpf a radical priest and Anabaptist Reformer from Hongg, Switzerland stated “The decision has already been made by the Spirit of God”.
#3) The other was when 14 year old Joseph Smith started receiving his revelation from a spirit that resulted in the Mormon Church. (See: Gal. 1:6-10 then 2Cor. 11:13-15 then decide if it is a true church. (Matt. 16:13-19) (V.18) Jesus told Peter the gates of hell would not prevail against what Peter had said in (V.16); “Thou art the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the living God.” (Matt. 21:37-44 esp. V. 42 keyword: stone & 1Pet. 2:6 keywords: corner stone and he that believeth on him) The Stone (the Rock of ages) is Jesus who is the Cornerstone of the Church, not Peter! (1 Pet. 2:3-9 esp. V.5) The Cornerstone (Jesus) establishes the Anchor, Level and Squareness of the foundation of the Church (V.5 keywords: the spiritual house). Jesus did not say Peter was in control or had any power other than being an Apostle and (V.19) reaffirms the strict responsibility of the coming church which Jesus had explained in (please read this Matt. 7:13-27 esp. V.14, 15 & 18-21 keywords: strait gate, false prophets, and corrupt tree).
The True Hidden Church: Despite what you read below there were always (Please read this scripture because your eternal destination may be in danger Mark 13:1-27) small, hidden groups of Dissenter Christians scattered throughout the Roman empire and later on in Europe and Asia Minor who held to the oral traditions set forth by the original Apostles and scattered here and there were a very few men who could read the original Biblical texts and thus keep God’s word in its purity. They met in secret and worshipped God in Spirit and truth according to the instructions given in the Holy Scriptures.
When Christianity first came to Rome it was an entirely Pagan society bent on the military conquest of all the tribes and peoples they met.
Caesar is the title of the office of the Roman Emperor, same as the title President. The founding of the True Church flourished while Paul was in Rome. For a few years after Paul was beheaded the Church grew and spread under the authority of a succession of Bishops.
The Roman Government saw Christianity as a Jewish sect! The salt covenant originated with *(Lev. 2:13 & Num. 18:14)* God’s unbreakable covenant with ancient Israel. The ancient pagan world adopted it. Two men would drop a pinch of salt into each other’s salt pouch and swear their covenant oath. It could be broken only if each man retrieved every grain of his salt from the other’s container without mix-up, which was impossible. ***If a Christian was brought before a Roman judge, would not recant and would not perform the salt covenant to Caesar he was killed, usually by some type of torture.***
Active, hateful, cruel, hunt them down, take them to the arena and kill them persecution started in 64 AD under Caesar Nero and continued under various Caesars’ until 312 AD when General Constantine had a vision of the cross in a dream, made it his Legions’ Symbol and won a great battle against Emperor Maxentius in which Constantine became the sole Emperor of Rome and he claimed that event as his “Christian experience“.
The strong, unbending Christians had been murdered when they refused to perform the salt covenant to Caesar SO: the visible and still true Church, though much more numerous, was spiritually weaker and was an easy mark for the apostasy that was coming.
For 12 years, until he finally consolidated absolute power in 324 AD, Caesar Constantine didn’t say much about Christianity but he did halt the persecution of the Church. ******In 324 AD he made Christianity the official religion of Rome, outlawed paganism, built a huge, beautiful *Church on Vatican Hill* and started adding a Roman political element to the Church.****** (6 the Biblical number of man)
The church hierarchy in order of importance was Bishop, Priests and Deacons. The succession of Bishops, later called Popes, claimed unbroken Episcopal succession from Simon Peter based on who Peter was and not what Jesus said to Peter His disciple in (Matt. 16:13-19 esp. V.18 see 9 paragraphs above).
The Romanized Church said Jesus had chosen Peter to be the leader of the Apostles, the first Bishop, the Prince of the Apostles and the first Pope (Holy Father). Constantine was busy corrupting the visible Church by mixing Christian, pagan, and political teaching and influence into the Church.
Vatican hill contained a huge cemetery and was the home of Vatica the pagan goddess of the dead. *It was where Peter had been buried after Nero crucified him upside-down in 67 AD almost 250 years earlier.* Vatica was the name of the bitter grapes that grew on the hill and were infamous for making the cheapest and worst wine in the ancient world.
Also Vatica was the name of a hallucinogenic weed (Vatica cannabis) that grew on the hill and was thought to produce prophetic visions. The Church Constantine built, on the bones of the Apostle, was torn down in the Middle Ages and replaced, ***in the same place, with the Vatican Church (St. Peter’s Basilica) you see today.***

#1) named after Vatica the pagan goddess of the dead who lived there, in the graveyard of the dead, on the bones of a dead apostle Rome had killed,

#3) and a worldly plant named Vatica caused hallucinations that gave artificial prophetic visions!

One of the outlawed Pagan “religions” was the worship of the goddess Diana which was the Roman name for the ancient Greek goddess Artemis. There were Temples of the goddess Diana in every major city throughout the Roman Empire.
Info from www.cowart.info concerning the temple of the goddess Diana: Carved marble columns surrounded the porch of the white tile roofed temple. Inside the temple was the *statue that was Diana.* On the torso of the grotesque, gold plated, pagan statue of Diana were rows and rows of breasts signifying fertility.
Praxiteles, the great Greek sculptor, carved the intricate altars where worshippers seeking the things of life bowed before the **lifeless, gold plated statue.** There were cryptic inscriptions of various prayers, magic formulas and magic incantations engraved on the huge pedestal upon which the idol stood with outstretched arms.
Priests copied these inscriptions on parchments and medallions and sold them to the supplicants to ward off disease, demons, bad luck, or whatever one wanted, or felt they needed. Everything had a price in the temple of goddess Diana.
Barren women who wanted a baby went to the temple and called on Diana. Pregnant woman who were afraid of the rigors of childbirth and wanted a safe delivery went to the temple and called on Diana. Anyone could come to Diana for anything if they had the price.
Craftsmen fashioned statuettes from gold, silver, marble, or terra cotta depending on how much the worshipper wanted to pay, then the worshipper presented the statuettes to their Idol and left them at her altar in the temple. Every female devotee of Diana served two years as a prostitute in the outlying buildings on the temple grounds with her earnings going into the temple treasury.
Soldiers, sailors, traders, whoever had the urge frequented the brothel of Diana. Mixed in with the swirling crowd were the true worshippers of Diana. *#1) Oddly enough, the temple treasury served as a bank and financial clearing house. *#2) An elite corps of guards permanently protected the temple. *#3)The temple priesthood controlled the commerce and finances in the area, for a cut of the proceeds! These worshipers of Diana were the persecuted pagans AND: Constantine had said; *”Convert to Christianity or die”.
Recorded history states Vesta was the daughter of Chronos (time) and Rhea (earth) in Roman legend. History is blurred but it appears Vesta had to do with creation of life by fire, but she remained a virgin because she had no sexual organs. In Vesta’s temple virginity was a requirement of her attendants, called Vestal Virgins, and only these women were allowed into the inner sanctum to attend the sacred fire. State support was removed and the sacred fire tended by the Vestal Virgins was extinguished in 394 AD. These too were persecuted pagans AND: Constantine had said; “Convert to Christianity or die“.
Upon seeing the heresy, paganism and political affiliation corrupting the Church; Augustine (354-430 AD), Latin theologian, Bishop of Hippo Regius, from the Africa Province (present day Algeria) of the Roman Empire wrote a paper about the need for humility by the Church based on the scripture; ***(James 4:6)*** (three, the Biblical number of completion) “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.”
He also wrote about divine grace, moral responsibility and the free will of the individual. The Church did not suppress Augustine’s writings (God’s last call to repent—turn around?) and they would come back to destroy the apostate Church by a man named Martin Luther. Were they two Unknown Divine Appointments?
Starting with Constantine and, over time, under different Caesars, the pagans were persecuted unless they “converted” to Christianity. They brought their temple wealth with them and many pagans professed Christianity but had no true change of heart and they introduced parts of their pagan worship into the Church services.
The politicizing of the Holy Roman Church continued and they named it the Roman Catholic (universal) Church because it was spread through the whole Roman Empire. Bishoprics were established throughout the Empire but the Bishop in Rome was supreme.
All the Bishops were called Pope (father) BUT: as time went on that was discarded and only the supreme Bishop in Rome was called the Pope (Holy Father). Dissenter Christians, the true, now hidden Church, kept their mouth shut, worshipped God in secret and went about their business but if discovered they were killed!
Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) was the Eastern Roman seat of political and Church power. Rome was the Western seat of political and Church power with Caesar and the Pope being supreme. Hundreds of Dissenters were killed!
The Catholic (universal) Church spread beyond the Roman Empire’s borders. When the physical Roman Empire began to decline the Holy Roman Catholic Church Empire did not decline and its influence continued to grow in Europe, Scandinavia, Asia Minor and northern Africa and the *Pope reigned supreme.* Through all this time Dissenters, if discovered, were simply hunted down and killed by burning alive, crucifixion, beheading and etc.
The Church continued to grow in power until in 390 AD Caesar Theodosius was excommunicated and required to do penance for the murder of 7,000 people in Thessalonica. In *66 years, (six, the Biblical number of man)* from 324 above to 390 AD, The Catholic Church had attained the political, financial and religious power to enforce moral authority on a Caesar! Think of that!!!
In 451 AD the Chalcedon Council of Catholic Churches was held to decide, among other things, the definition of faith. The Eastern Churches took the stance that the Western Churches in Rome were becoming too political, wealthy, heretical, and apostate but the Church held together. The Catholic Church told the world a person could only achieve salvation through the Catholic Church.
Charlemagne was crowned Ruler (Emperor) of the Holy Roman Empire in 800 AD and the union of Church and state was complete.
In 1054 AD the Eastern Churches split (1st schism) from the Catholic Church over the above grievances, liturgical differences and a disagreement as to who gave the Holy Spirit to man. The East said He was given by God and the West said He came from both God and Jesus. They also disagreed about papal authority. *Western Pope Leo IX* and *Eastern Patriarch Michael I* excommunicated each other.
The East became the Eastern Orthodox and the West stayed Roman Catholic with the Eastern Orthodox keeping many of the Church’s oral traditions and, of course, the scrolls of scripture. The Eastern Orthodox is now comprised of the various Orthodox Churches, Russian, Greek, Romanian, the offshoot Coptic Church and etc. Each branch, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox, claimed only theirs held the key to salvation.
Arnold of Brescia was an Augustinian monk who was excommunicated in 1148 AD when he called on the Roman Catholic Church to renounce the corrupting influence of wealth on the clergy. He continued his call for reform and said the Pope was not God’s authority and that salvation was from God and not from the Catholic Church. In 1155 AD he was hanged then his body was burned at the stake.
The Roman Catholic Church, spreading all through the European Continent, Asia and Africa became more corrupt, apostate, political, worldly, heretic and started inquisitions in various Bishoprics as an excuse to murder Dissenters and thus keep control. Thousands were killed!
From 800 to 1600 AD the name of the gradually less and less hidden true Church changed from Dissenters, to Reformers, to Protesters, to Protestants. Three of the Popes that helped bring on the Reformation of the Church were Pope John XII with his open love affairs, Innocent VII who proudly acknowledged his illegitimate children and lavished Church wealth on them, wealth taken from the poor, AND Urban VI who tortured and murdered several of his Cardinals. Political Rome, with its legions, was dead but the Holy Roman (Catholic) Church reigned supreme over more people and more land than the Caesars’ ever had.
NOTE: From this point on it is understood all dates are AD (Anno Domini- the year Jesus was born. It does not mean “After Death” of Jesus) and the AD will not be added unless absolutely necessary. Given below is a time line of other events in this era you can research. END OF NOTE.
500-1500 commonly called the Middle Ages.
1095-1291 the Crusades led by Catholics against the Saracens–>Muslims. 1209-1594 the Renaissance–>great strides in philosophy, science, medicine, math, astronomy, music, art, architecture and classic writing.
1347-1351 the Black Plague killed 25-50% of Europe’s population!
In the beginning very few people could read and all they had was what the Catholic Church told them, sold them, or took from them. The Bishops and priests became corrupt in raising revenue by tariffs and taxes on merchants, farmers and shippers. They also sold indulgences, healings and bits of parchment with “Holy Writings” on them that guaranteed whatever the supplicant wanted.
They sold statues of the saints, apostles and Popes that would provide blessing and “good luck”. The Roman Catholic Church controlled government, commerce, and finances. Everything had a price. Does it sound familiar to goddess Diana?
The Roman Catholic Church taught there was no salvation except through the Catholic Church, sold indulgences which were prayers for the dead and sold “holy offices” to the highest bidder and they were eagerly sought because whoever held the position got a cut of the tax, tariff and offering money they collected in their far-flung Bishoprics.
The Catholic Church taught the Pope was infallible, his edicts were the law of God and the Pope was the absolute authority on Earth. It was common for the Church hierarchy and priests to marry wives and keep mistresses at the same time.
Royal Families from several Monarchy States such as the Habsburgs, Bourbons, Wittelsbachs, Tudors and etc. took powerful positions in the Catholic Church in addition to being the monarch of the royal court in their particular state. These Royal families intermarried with each other to initiate, re-enforce, or guarantee peace between monarchies and for political and financial advantage or so two could unite and make war on a third monarchy.
Whoever owned the land owned the people and they kept their subjects subjected to the “Royals” religious, political and financial beliefs and the peasants and serfs didn’t have a choice.
These royal families could also afford to raise their own armies to enforce their will. The peasants resented Royalty and the Catholic Church, they wanted to own their own land and to be free to worship God in some other way than what they were seeing so *their resentment at being forced to live under domination and bondage was festering.*
The sides were being drawn in what had been a sort of guerrilla warfare as the Reformer faction tried to reform the Roman Catholic Church. These Reformers did not want to leave the Catholic Church, they wanted it brought back to the purity described in the Holy Scriptures! John Huss, a reformer leader, was excommunicated and burned alive in 1415.
Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press around 1440. Bibles, translated from the Greek and Hebrew, could be mass produced. More people were becoming educated and could read. More and more Reformer groups flared up all over the Holy Roman (Catholic Church) Empire.
They were led by rogue priests who were sick of being a part of the arrogant, apostate, sinful, greedy Church and they wanted the Church reformed. There were simmering fires of Church reform all over the European continent and they occasionally flared up into localized open warfare and the constant, grinding persecution continued. Thousands were killed.
Martin Luther, a German, was serving the Church in Germany as an Augustinian priest. He could read and translate; he had obviously studied the writings of Augustine (mentioned above) and he impressed the German Feudal Lord (salvation?) who was supporting him. Then Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the door of the Wittenberg Church. More and more Reformer groups had been and were springing up all over the Roman Catholic Empire and they became known as Protesters.
Luther’s 95 Thesis blew the lid off the smoldering pot of Church reform. The Catholic Church excommunicated him and placed a bounty on his head but he was a hero to the Protesters against the Church and to those who lived in bondage. The German feudal lord liked his now famous friar and killed the assassins as they came.
The Protestor movement grew stronger and stronger and started to split (2nd schism) away from the Catholic Church. The name Protestor was individualized into the name Protestant for individual Protestors. The Catholics fought to keep control and the Protestants were willing to fight to get away from the Catholic Church. Hundreds of thousands were killed.
Luther’s followers established the Lutheran church in Germany and Scandinavia. John Calvin and his followers established Reformed Churches in Hungary, Scotland, Switzerland and France. John Knox and his followers established the Presbyterian Church in Scotland and Hungary. Their uniting belief was the Bible, not the Pope, is the supreme authority for the Church. *An ever growing number of some of the royal families were converted and joined with the Protestants.*
The Huguenots were the largest Protestant group in France. Catholic King Henry created a heresy court known as the Burning Chamber because after Protestant prisoners were tortured into the confession of Dissident activities they were burned alive.
The event that ensured the two sides, Catholic and Protestant, would never again be one Church happened while Henry II was king of France. In 1559 the French Huguenots (French Calvinists) organized a military to protect themselves against their King and the House of Guise which was a powerful Catholic family with ties to the Catholic Spanish King and his royal court. In 1562 civil war broke out with guerrilla tactics, sporadic battles and much slaughter.
In 1572 a peace attempt was made by politically arranging a marriage between Henry of Navarre, the nominal head of the Huguenots, and Margaret of Valois a Catholic member of the Royal Family. Catherine de’ Medici, also of the royal family and a strident Catholic, persuaded the Catholics to kill the Protestants who attended the wedding in Paris and *3,000 Protestants were killed.*
Catholic soldiers assaulted the Huguenot neighborhoods in Paris and in the French provinces of Rouen, Lyons, Bourges, Orleans and Bordeaux *and an estimated 70,000 Protestants were killed.* Huguenot (Protestant Christians) soldiers killed Catholics in the fighting and they actively hunted down priests like animals and murdered them. It is reported some of the Huguenot Army officers wore necklaces strung with priest’s ears. The Pope responded with a mass in which he celebrated the Catholic victory.
Christians killing Christians and the Church (Pope) celebrated with a victory mass? Any thoughts of peace were roasted in the crackling flames of that Catholic celebration. During the 100 years of the 16th century, 1500-1600, wars like this one flared sporadically all across the Holy Roman (Catholic) Empire.
The Thirty Year War, 1618 to 1648, started in Bohemia and eventually spread to every nation in Europe. It was inspired by religious differences but it also had international (between European Nations), social, political, and economic ramifications. Several sources say the *loss of life and destruction of property rivaled the losses suffered in WW1 WHICH IS ESTIMATED to be 20 million people dead at a cost of 206 billion in 1913 valued dollars.*
After the Protestants split from the Catholic Church the Catholic Church took a long hard look at itself and STARTED A COUNTER REFORMATION to rid itself of the undesirable elements that made it what it was.
*****With all the hatred, bloodshed and the impossibility of reason in Europe it is no great wonder that on Sept. 16, 1620 one hundred and two passengers faced the great unknown and fled across the huge, forbidding Atlantic Ocean in a tiny, rickety, wooden sailing ship named the Mayflower headed to colonize Plymouth in The New World.***** (five the Biblical number of grace).
The Protestant Church that came to America: The four main denominations to come out of The Reformation were #1) Lutheran, (Martin Luther), #2) Presbyterian (John Knox), #3) Anglican Church (England State Religion) and the #4) Reformed Church (John Calvin).
The #1 & 2) Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches believed mankind is of a carnal, fallen nature because of the original sin in the garden of Eden, the Bible is the sole source of authority from God, that mankind in general has the free will to make a choice, that man receives salvation through the grace of God and not of works.
The #3) Anglican Church (of England) had much of the trappings, rote, communion, ritual, Book of Prayer and etc. of the hated Catholic Church and entered into its own repressive policies when reformers in England attempted to make changes.
The #4) Reformed Church (Calvinists) believed in predestination where only a few people are predestined to be saved and all the rest are doomed to hell and none have a choice in the matter. They believed holy works and strict adherence to the Bible earned heaven. The Calvinists also had a strict Church code of conduct that dictated their speech, dress, manner, number of times to attend Church each week and etc.
Of course it is easy to see the Puritans who brought their harsh beliefs and the Church Patrol to enforce discipline, were of the #4) Reformed Church (Calvinists) because they had purified the Church. It is also easy to see the Pilgrims with their more gentle ways and belief in free will and grace were from the #1&2) Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches.
After colonization began, people eventually flooded to the colonies (later named America) to escape servitude to various monarchies and governments and also to escape the persecution, bloodshed, instability and repression of the Thirty Year War.
In 1683 Dutch and German Mennonites of the Anabaptist denomination came to Pennsylvania and were followed by Swiss Mennonites around 1708. They united in 1725 and adopted the Dordrecht Confession of faith as their original Church statement of faith. My gentle friend and spiritual Brother Nathan, written about in the commentary Sin in Church in article #6 in the Growth as a Christian series, is a Mennonite: PLEASE READ IT FOR A SHOCKING REVELATION INTO THE MENNONITE FAITH about one third down the article with the paragraph that begins with “After those dreadful thoughts it’s good to think about and remember Nathan, my Mennonite friend.”
John Smyth, an ordained Anglican minister, broke away from the Anglicans and founded the Baptist Church in the Netherlands in 1608. A member of that Church, Thomas Helwys, started the Baptist Church in Spitalfields, England in 1612. The Baptists also came to America.
John and Charles Wesley were ordained Anglican ministers who emphasized conversion (change to something else—born again) and holiness. They were barred by the Anglicans in England and they started the Methodist movement in 1738. In America Methodist circuit riding evangelists froze, starved, and thirsted as they rode the lonely back trails and brought the Gospel to distant, far-flung, isolated settlements, farms and encampments. Hats off to you my Brothers.
The Church of Christ (1Cor. 1:10-14 Esp. V.12 keywords: I of Christ) with their belief they are the one true Church (Acts 2:38) and that water baptism is essential to salvation because that is when the Holy Spirit is given is a “home grown denomination“ founded by ex-Presbyterian, ex-Baptist Alexander Campbell in 1830. He never claimed that distinction but did say he was from a long line that extended back to John the Baptist.
The Pentecostal movement, a loose confederation of groups of Churches, is also a “home grown denomination” that started with a meeting to promote holiness by Sarah Langford in New York City in 1836. In *1902 William Seymour, a negro preacher, had been forced to sit in the hall (segregated) when white preacher Charles Parham gave a lecture concerning “tongues” as evidence of Holy Spirit baptism to a white audience. The Pentecostal movement started growing in *1906 after William Seymour, the negro preacher, held a three-year Azusa Street Revival in an abandoned stable in Los Angeles, CA. All Pentecostal branches trace their origin back to that revival. God bless you my Brother, because of your humility and dedication the Pentecostal Church is now, 12-25-12, the fastest growing Protestant Church in the world.
Two Catholics, Thomas FitzSimons and Daniel Carroll, signed the Constitution and *a Jew, Hyam Solomon, a member of the Sons of Liberty in 1776, collected donations from other Jews and bought food and clothing for the starving, freezing Continental Army at Valley Forge.*
Hyam Solomon was captured and sentenced to death by the British for spying but managed to escape. When George Washington needed funds to fight the British at Yorktown, the final and conclusive battle in the Revolutionary War, he was told there was no money in the treasury to buy munitions. George Washington uttered a four word command; “Send for Hyam Solomon.”
The Continental Army won the battle of Yorktown, financed by the Jews through Hyam Solomon, the English left American soil and America was free from tyranny. (John 4:22) **Christians owe their spiritual freedom to the Jews through Jesus** and **America owes her political freedom to the Jews because of their financial support of the Revolutionary War.** Remember, the only two nations founded by covenants? Get a good concordance that lists and locates every word in the Bible, gives Hebrew and Greek definitions (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance is a good one) and study for your eternal life!

V.14 keyword: gate & V.21 keyword: will) In these scriptures Jesus gives a picture of the true, Bible believing church within (2Cor. 11:13-15) the visible, apostate (abandonment of one’s religious faith) church. (John 14:6 & Acts 4:8-12) The only way to achieve salvation is through Jesus Who is the Gate. AND: (John 1:1-4 & 1John 1:1-7 keyword: Word) God’s Living Word, the Holy Bible, is God’s revealed reasoning, motive, Divine Expression (i. e. Jesus). (Luke 11:23) Jesus said; “He who is not with me is against me.” Christian, what could be more plain?
Read (Matt. 24:3-13): As America the nation goes deeper and deeper into sin under “civil law” the crescendo of God’s judgments grows greater. God is saying; “Come back to Me America because I love you and we have a covenant.” just like He did ancient Israel! Check the storms, floods, fires, droughts and etc.
America has not won a war since WW2. Sexual freedom and acceptance began its ascendancy in the late 1940s AND Korea was a draw as proved by the Korean DMZ. The counter-culture with its free sex and drug culture kicked in during the 1960s AND Vietnam was a defeat, the communists overran that DMZ and took that country.
Iraq and Afghanistan were a horrid joke; see below. America has the greatest, most sophisticated war machine the world has ever known, yet America cannot wipe out a few drug smugglers and a denomination of religious zealots in the middle east who want to destroy America AND Christianity! “Don’t offend anyone or deprive anyone of their “civil rights” while we are fighting for America’s survival!” “Oh my God, don’t kill an innocent bystander and we cannot cause any collateral damage!“ If that’s the answer how stupid was the question?
The roaring twenties were followed by the great depression and the dust bowl farming disaster. A judgment: hurricane Katrina cost 138 billion dollars and that was right after America’s leaders bragged; “We’ll come back from 9-11 on our own, we’ll rebuild, we’ll be stronger than ever.” Left unsaid in words but made plain by actions was; “America as a nation will not repent! America will not return to God! We don’t need You!”
Oh sure, there were a few weeks of knee-jerk prayers but America did not come back to God. Where was the unified Church of America? Spiritually asleep at the wheel, searching for entertainment and their electronic fix and shouting; “Tell us what we want to hear or we’ll vote you out as Pastor.”
The spiritually blind church missed the point EXCEPT: for those Holy Spirit led truth tellers in God’s hidden, true Church that people love to mock, disbelieve and desire to shut up, the hidden church inside the visible, apostate church. Where was the national repentance in spiritual sackcloth and ashes? Repent from what? (1Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21 & Rev. 21:8) National acceptance of legalized prostitution in ten counties in Nevada. (Prov. 6:16-19 esp. V.16 “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:” (V.17 keywords: #1) hands that shed innocent blood AND Exodus (21:22-25 esp. V.22) two men are fighting and cause a woman to miscarry. AND (V.23-25) (V.23) “And if any mischief follow, (Strong’s #: evil, harm, hurt) thou shalt give life for life,” THE PROPHECY OF THE DISMEMBERENT IN THE FUTURE (V.24) “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,” (V.25) “Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.” THE ANCIENT PEOPLE DID NOT HAVE THE MEDICAL SKILLS TO PERFORM THESE ABORTIONS. An aborted baby is shedding the most innocent blood of all AND the burning of the saline abortion. drugs, fornication, homosexual lifestyle where men can be transexual and beat women in the Olympic competition every time, lying, stealing and etc.
THE HORRID JOKE: What about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that only accomplished the waste of American soldier’s lives and much needed resources? We changed a few names by killing some of them but different faces carry the same old spirit don’t they? Nothing really changed did it? It can’t as long as the American government pussyfoots around trying not to offend anyone! Where was America’s leadership? IF YOU DON’T WIN YOU’VE LOST! Duuuhhhh!
This is not an attack on America’s gallant soldiers. I love them for what they are and I too know the depressing, terrible, soul killing frustration of being sent to war (Vietnam) but not being allowed to win. It’s like being the butt of a joke gone horribly wrong.
A lot of Christians have died in America’s wars and disasters just like obedient Jews did in Israel. Individuals don’t matter when it comes to a nation’s judgment. (Heb. 9:27 keywords: it is appointed unto men once to die) When death calls your name, the cause of your death matters very little because dead is dead. EXCEPT (Heb. 2:9-11 esp. V.11 keyword: brethren) JESUS’ BROTHERS AND SISTERS. For a complete explanation go to the commentary (John 11:26) Christians Never Experience Physical Death and you will understand by scripture how God’s mercy extends far beyond a Christian’s wildest dreams. I have experienced Christian Physical Death and it was proved by the two biblically required witnesses, one was an EMT as to the time and the other was a Mortician as to physical condition! Please read it for your own comfort. Franklin Graham’s disaster relief organization carries it and gives it out when they are bringing comfort to disaster victims. I have given it out hundreds of times when I find out a Christian has died in whatever way.
(Rev. 20:11-15) Each of us will face God’s judgment SO: the only thing that will ever count is; are you a Christian or not AND: (Rev. 3:14-22 esp. V.16 keyword: lukewarm) if you are a Christian, how did you live your life?
The United States of America was officially established by the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (amendments to the Constitution). AND: As you will see, since that time, except for a spurt of revival here and there, the visible Church has grown steadily weaker, more corrupt and less influential in American society under the rules of democracy (civil law) as are set forth in the founding documents because society is hell bent on feel goodism, sensual entertainment.
The definition of church in New Testament Greek is THE CALLED OUT ONES. (Eph. 2:13-22 esp. V.21-22 & Heb. 3:6) Individual Christians are the house in which God lives through the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 16:4-5) The Church house is the “special” building where God’s people assemble together to meet with God.
It contains the representation of the blood bought altar purchased by Jesus Christ, God’s Son, on the bloody cross at Calvary, it is consecrated to God, it is Holy Ground. BUT: When God’s people go home God goes with them IN THEIR HEARTS (SOULS) THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT and the wood, plastic, porcelain, steel and stone building, the church house consecrated to God, is empty.
John F. Kennedy, the first Catholic president, said before a ministerial Association in 1960: “For while this year it may be a Catholic against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed, in other years it has been, and may someday be again, a Jew, or a Quaker, or a Unitarian, or a Baptist; Today I may be the victim; but tomorrow it may be you; until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped.” That was Kennedy’s reply to attacks upon his religious beliefs because he was a Catholic candidate for president.
Martin Niemoller, a Protestant minister, described what Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party did in Germany when they came to power in the 1930s; “First they came for the Jews and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
There are nations where a single religion is the authority over every person. Would you want to live under that? There are nations where a dictator has all control and his political beliefs, sometimes under the guise of religious beliefs, are the rule of law over every person in that nation.
